MIJNSK[E] : A NEW TYPE OF PRACTICE

The last years have seen the emergence of architectural practices that differ from traditional firms. Like Ocean D, UFO, a-Graft and MIJNSK[E].
Pedro Gadanho signals a quiet revolution of open source architecture, started by architects who do not have the ambition to fill the ranks of the traditional system. The network practice is a non hierarchical one. Members are seen as independent individuals who pool their different competences in a process of close coorporation. All designers in the network look after their own projects, contacts and networks, helping each other when possible. Projects are designed collectively or in small teams. In this way each designer is able to grow above its own abilities. At the same time the organization is not limited by what one designer is capable of.

MIJNSK[E] proces :

The proces of designing starts with a client and the development of the commission and brief (opdracht en programma van eisen). Depending on the client the proces will be designed, organised en directed. That is the start. Communication. The end is always a satisfactory functioning building, which is at the same time to be experienced as architecture. In between there is the struggle to obtain the best with al the parties involved.

MIJNSK[E] content:

The aim is always to design and build. To think, to draw and to construct within the financial parameters given by the client. Spaciality and image and funtion is our speciality. The relation between materialization, the light and the bigness / smallness and the purpose. And there is always an input of humor or music or graphics or of an other creative source which is to be seen and introduced as a context emergency.
